When The Sun Goes Down

Today,
don’t forget to smile,
for someday,
we’ll all be on the other side.

When the Sun goes down
and the dark night veils the sight,
I want you to remember,
in oblivion there is a certain disarming respite.

When the Sun goes down
and you hear a chirping noise,
I want you to remember a six year old,
skirty poise clad in a squeaky voice.

When the Sun goes down
and fear seizes the mind,
I want you to remember,
the night sky might be brighter and braver with stars around,
but it takes a real man to walk in the dark, proud.

When the Sun goes down
and you remember the ones that preceded it,
and what they wrought;
and you dream of some that never happened,
know that you don’t always have to stand tall.

When the Sun goes down,
be humble,
for you shall again rise.
To the moon, give a little light.
He needs it more today,
even if it’s just a guise.

When the Sun goes down,
don’t forget to smile.
Don’t forget to close your eyes
and breathe in every part of life.
